SEBI Nomination — What You Need to Know
SEBI encourages all investors to register a nominee or submit an explicit opt-out declaration. Folios are not frozen for non-submission — SEBI removed the freeze in June 2024. However, nomination is strongly recommended for smooth asset transmission to your family. New SEBI rules (January 2025) allow up to 10 nominees per folio and require nominees to provide PAN or Aadhaar. A new nomination form format is mandatory from June 1, 2025.
Why do these links look the same?
Mutual funds in India outsource their operations to central agencies called RTAs (CAMS, KFintech, etc.). Because of this, you don't need a different form or portal for every AMC! You can use the unified MF Central portal to update online, or download a single standard RTA Form to update multiple mutual funds offline.

How to Update Nomination

Go to mfcentral.com and click "Login" (or the AMC's own investor portal for Franklin).

Authenticate with your PAN number and mobile/email OTP linked to your folio.

Select the folio, go to "Services" then "Nomination" then "Add / Update Nominee".

Enter nominee details: full name, date of birth, relationship, address, PAN or Aadhaar (last 4 digits), and % share. Up to 10 nominees allowed per folio (SEBI 2025 rules).

eSign using Aadhaar OTP (instant) or upload a scanned wet-signature form. Confirmation SMS/email within 24 hours.
Which RTA manages your folio?
CAMS folios typically start with digits (e.g. 1234/56). KFintech folios typically start with letters (e.g. XY/123456). If unsure, use MF Central — it covers both RTAs and auto-detects your folio.
Opt-out option: SEBI also allows you to declare that you do not wish to nominate anyone. Download the “opt-out declaration” from your RTA site and submit it.
